Hi Robert I could spend all my time just working on family history, but--. I spent last evening looking at the photos you have on the web and most of the older ones I can relate to as having been there or being with the people in the photo. It sure brought back memories that I had not thought about for some time. As I said I never met John and Jane but my mother told me many thing about them and now wish I had asked and heard more. I Never met Robert McKelvey but I met Sarah and was at their home several times. I met and knew Earl (never called Hambi that I ever heard any of the family call him, always Earl.) Knew his wife Elizabeth. I think I met Celia Once, but mother talked about her. Pearl (never called Cambi) and loved her. She was so full of full and lived by herself in very crude surroundings. Knew her boys. Never Met Newt (Newton) as he sort of separated or moved away from the family in Killbuck. Mother spoke of him often. Knew Ellsworth and Lola McKelvey and their family. When my brother and Charley and Ellsworth got to gather in a group it was a hilarious time-such joking, etc. Knew Charles and Susan and their family. Also Bessie and Glen and stayed with them several times and of course all of there Kids. In fact Stanley Orr and his sister Wanda Orr Chase came to my reception for my art exhibit a week ago. I knew this generation of the family because they were more my age. Mother - Lillie - was the youngest of the 7 children of John and Jane and I was born when My Mother was 47 yrs old. So they all associate me with the younger generations and not as a grandchild of John and Jane. Mom was born in the Old log cabin they lived in before the big present white house was built. They moved into the big house when mother was 7 yrs. old. She told of Robert having a night mare and kicking up in the air and hitting his toe on the roof of the cabin and breaking his toe. I did not know William McKelvey, Did not know David but knew his wife Lena (Elena) and their family and lived by them at one time. in Harden Co. -- east of Ada, Oh. Knew Mary McKelvey and visited her in Colorado Springs with her second husband - Sam. Knew her 2 children. She Married Simmon Sondles and went to Kansas and Mom told how their mother (Jane) helped Mary get ready to move and cut strips of potato with the eyes in them and dried them, for Mary to take with her to Kansas for her to plant. Mary said that those potatoes help to pull them thru the first years as it was so dry that they provided most of their food for them. Annie McKelvey I never met, but Mom talked about her so much. Uncle Zander (Alexander) and Sarah I knew and was to their home. Mom was unhappy with him over the will of John McKelvey. My brother Willis and sister Leora were born in Holmes Co. My Father, Sherman and Lilly moved to harden Co when My brother was 13 yrs and Leora was 18 month old. Dad and Willis drove the team and wagon thru and it took them 2 days from Killbuch to Hardin Co. Mom told about Johnnie Appleseed staying at their home when she was a girl. Stayed over night and planted apple seeds. Then wandered on. She said he was very queer. No I have not written any thing and must make that a priority thing as it is getting late. Think about that often. Oh, Yes I have Jane McKelvey's small bible with a chunk of hair in it but do not know who it belongs to. I also have the two twin bed that belonged to John and Jand. The one bed is where he died. Enough this time. Can tell some about Jane Logan and her brothers coming over but will do that next time after I look up her brothers names etc. Always wished I had met John and Jane. Oh yes, another time I must tell about John MeKelvey's trips to town and letting his horse find the way home with John singing at the top of his lungs. He was unable to drive he was so happy. You know the Irish and the pubs. Be in touch. Annabelle |
