A Short History of the Cascade County Courthouse

"Handsome, massive and imposing is Cascade County's new temple of justice." On the eve of the dedication of the new courthouse, held July 4, 1903, the Great Falls Tribune proudly and boldly announced the official birth of the new home for the county's seat of government.

In 1887, the city of Great Falls had only recently been established, and Montana was still a territory. Taking portions of Chouteau, Meagher and Lewis and Clark Counties, the Montana Territorial Legislative Assembly passed an act on September 12 that created Cascade County and named Great Falls the temporary county seat.
