That's not me with him though.
I'm looking forward to having Samuel in a lot of shows this summer.
While I was riding he got spooked and jumped forward. Good thing was that I was thinking of stuff the horse could do and I kept control. When it was time to go home he would not get in the trailer. He reared up and then he got in. Then he backed out really fast. So then we tried again and he did the same thing again. But finally he just got in and we got to take him home. When we araived he just got out and I let him go meet the new horses. He liked them. Samuel is a little bay horse, with a big heart. He is a quarter horse (Welsh) cross .

May 14 After we got back home I got to go out to my Aunt Pennie's house where their grand-daughter is staying for the weekend. So I get to stay overnight and we'll have even more fun! Here is a picture that my Dad made of some pictures he took at the branding:
These are some more of the things we did:

The Missouri River Riders 4-H club meeting was about a judging on the 28 of this month. I didn't get to go because we had something going on the 28th. But at least I made it to the meeting.
The MRR meeting was about the horse education. Then we watched a movie. The movie was about getting ready for the horse show. Getting ready for the show means to show people how to wash, clip and trim your horse.
The meeting was at amcora's. The clinic was on how to keep conrtoll of your horse. This was a really fun clinic because a whole bunch of people came and we did the keeping control of each other with the ropes. Then earlyer they made saddle fittings whitch I missed because they switched times for when to be there.
Today was the meeting for the MRR. The MRRs had to vote on if we should have a party in April or not, but of course someonemade a motion and then some other person 2ened the motion so the party shall go on. Then we had a test on how well we know the parts of our horse. I think I did farly well on that.

Today was the best day ever.
I finally got my own horse this year. My Mom and Dad bought me a Welsh-Quarter horse and his name is Samuel. He is a 5 year old gelding bay and I think he's the best horse I've ever seen. Since he can't stay in our yard I get to keep him in the stables at my Mom's cousin's place south of town.
I go out to see him about everry other day. I am teaching him a lot of stuff because he wasn't taught to mind very well before. He is really learning alot and fast too. Our biggest trouble to start with was teaching him to load on the trailer. My Dad and me spent a whole afternoon one day just working with Samuel to load. It took a long time but we were patient with him and we didn't stop trying. He finally got on the trailer and then got right back off again. Dad said that we needed to keep doing it over and over again so that Samuel would know the next time what we expect him to do. So that day we loaded him three or four more times. He sure got a lot of oats! That is the only way he'll get on is if he knows we will give him a reward. And he sure likes those oats!
I still go to Billy Smiley's for lessons and stuff. Now I just have to catch him if he's in the pasture and then walk him a little ways down the road to get to Billy's place. Some times we are going to load him up and go to King Arena too because I want Jamie to see how good I have gotten with Samuel.
Here's a picture of Samuel:

So the day that a trainer was at Western Ranch Supply. His name is Van Hargis and he showed some horses. There was a 3 year old horse that has only been riden three times. Then later he had brought out a 2 year old that has been ridden two times. At first I thought it was only a 1yr old because of his hight. So we watched that. Van was really great. So then it was break and my dad asked what was next and he said trailering witch was good because we needed help badly. So Van gave tips. Then he said to the owner that he better not hop in the trailer and that was exactly what the 3 year old did. Then they brought the 2 yearold and the same thing happened and that made him mad. (she is referring to Van's disappointment that the horses trailered effortlessly. He was hoping that the horses would resist so that he could actually demonstrate some tips on loading a difficult-to-load horse.) We tryed loading my horse and he did not bug to get into the trailer so we gave up.
This day is the day for the clinic. My horse has never been in a class with other horses. It was a night mare. My horse was really fast lopeing horse at the time so I could not controll him at all.
The MRRs meeting was about the clinic and how we can have better way for us & our horses to show as a team. Then after the meeting ended we did our Easter egg hunt.
Today was the Track meet. I ran hard and fast. I won a first in the 120 meter herdels (hurdles), a second in pursuit combo and a third in Pursuit team. I also got a red in 120 meter the red was because I twisted my ankle cause I made a foot change. Then I won a pink in 100 meter dash because there were more members in track.
May 26, 2007:
My Dad drove me out to the Maxwell's ranch where we did some branding. Dad gave the calves their shots. I herded the calves into the chutes where they got stuck with their head sticking out. If the calf was a bull-calf then he got his testicles squeezed with a tool that makes him so that he can't make any baby calfs when he grows up. Squeezing with that tool, like big pliers, makes it so that they don't bleed or anything. They don't bleed but I think that it makes the calf pretty mad because they sure did hurry up and get out of the gate after it was all over.
Mr. Maxwell - his name is Chuck - did that part. Dad's friend Mike Hryszko helped Ted Bobbick trap the calf in a cage and then they bent it over so that the calf could get a brand. Ted is the foreman of a big ranch and last weekend they branded about 500 calves. The brand lets people know that the cows belong to Chuck.
My job was pretty good. I got to wave my arms to get the cows to go where they need to be. Last year we did it and I had a bigstick to use to move the calf from one place to another. Today we couldn't find the stick and I figured out that I didn't need it after all. Sometimes we wanted the herd to go in one direction so I would stand in aplace that would keep them from coming after me. Instead they would go where they're supposed to. I got to make some of them move through the chute too. That was kind of fun and risky but no one got hurt. Except once, Chuck got kicked by a calf. It didn't hurt him though until later on when he could start to feel it. By that time we were having our lunch.
After the branding, Mrs. Maxwell - Chony - had cooked up a really big lunch. We ate alot of good food she cooked. She is Spanish and so there were alot of foods I haven't eaten before. Not like Mexican food either. Spanish food is different and really good. I loved the crock pot full of ribs the best!
This picture is of branding a full-grown cow, not a calf.
June 10
On June tenth was the Missouri River Riders Horse Show. It was fun. I won a 3rd place in bareback 11-13 which is fabulis cause I only had my horse for 3 months. Then I got a 4th place in western pleasure 11-13. The same day I got a 3rd place in english equitation and that was his second time in English. He did great that day with me.
Today was the all-County horse show. My classes are bareback, and I got a first place. Then it was western horsemanship level 3, and I got a red which is second place. Then after that was Western Equitation and there was a blue for me. Then came the speed events which were the barrels and poles. In barrels I got 3rd and made 14 dollars. Then poles and I came in 4th with no money.
Today was english. My first english class was horsemanship level 2, and I placed with a blue. Next was equitation 11-13, then out of the ring with a blue. Then was a really nervous it was dressage. Samuel did vary well he contaned all my signs to him vary nicely. When they said (that I was) the reserve champ Shelli Davidson told me what place I got. We were really happy.
