I joined 4-H October 25, 2004. I just turned 10. During last summer I was riding with Mrs. Smiley and she suggested I join 4-H. I was glad to do 4-H. It has been fun. At the first meeting it was decided that I would bring a game to each meeting. The name of my club is Missouri River Riders.
A few weeks before the horse show I go out to the stables every day.
1. Brush him head to hoof. Part of taking care of a horse is cleaning its stall and corral.
One day this summer I saw 2 dogs in my window. I went outside and chased them away but then a dog named Sam came up and wanted to be petted, then the other dog named Drake came. I got the phone number from their tags and a couple of guys came and got Sam and Drake. I am glad I saved those dogs from going to the dog pound.
I have two boy guinea pigs, Bomber and Flash. One day in August they were outside in their cage. It was 90 degrees. I noticed that Bomber was laying on his side which guinea pigs normally don't so. I picked him up and rushed him in the house to get my parents help. I also brought Flash inside. We put water in his mouth with a small syringe. We gave him a cool bath. He was not responding so my dad put sterile water under his skin with a small syringe. My parents told me that he had heat stroke and would probably die. I was very sad and I was crying. I fixed up a bed for him in the kitchen. I also gave him food and water. I kept my eye on him. Bomber responded to everything that we did for him. Within an hour he was up and walking. By the time we went to bed he was acting his old self. I felt great that he lived. I learned an importantlesson - NEVER leave my guinea pigs outside when it is 90 degrees or more.
At the November meeting we played Looney Toons. The kids had the best time of their lives.
On December 12, 2004 my dad and I went to learn about horse judging. I learned that horse judging you have to pay attention very closely.

For my first year in 4-H I did very well Thanks to Mrs. Smiley, Badger and my hard work. I hope to work my way up to level 2.
