1980 - March 20th, the last Milwaukee train left the Great Falls rail yard.
1980 - The Anaconda Copper Mining Co. shut down the Great Falls refinery bringing about the loss of 500 jobs. Another 1,000 jobs were lost in Anaconda when their smelter closed the same year.
1982 - September 18th, the "Big Stack" was demolished.
