Seems like I had put something here already.... Oh yeah! The 1970s! I came to Great Falls in 1971! Now that's historically noteworthy, isn't it?

1970 - March 1st, the last "Great Northern" railroad train ran. After that it was known as the "Burlington Northern." The merger of Great Northern, Northern Pacific and Burlington routes was finally finished.
1971 - The last passenger train of any kind pulled out of Great Falls. The "Western Star" and the "Empire Builder" trains fell silent by the end of April.
1971 - April, Amtrak takes over passenger train service.
1972 - August 6th, the great "Big Stack" emitted its last smoke. It belched out its first on June 12, 1909.
1972 - The Kennedy family, having bought the Electric City Conservatory in 1964, bought three residential properties between the store and 15th Street, tore them down and built the 11,000 sq ft sales greenhouse.
1974 - State Rep. Max Baucus, 32, of Missoula, announced he would be a Democratic candidate for the Western District Congressional seat held by Re. Dick Shoup.
1974 - a bill to legalize the practice of acupuncture in Montana cleared its first hurdle, advancing to the State Senate with a favorable report from the Public Health Committee.
1974 - Five laborers' unions in Great Falls, Butte, Kalispell, Missoula and Bozeman merged to form the Construction and General Laborers' Union Local 1334.
1974 - A proposed tax on tar & nicotine content in cigarettes died on the floor of the Montana Senate.
1976 - The Kennedy family, owners of the Electric City Conservatory, bought the former owner Marguerite Burrell residence, just west of the store. The Burrell residence then became a part of the store.
