1950s - The Milwaukee Railroad ended passenger service on the Harlowtown to Great Falls spur. The passenger depot between 1st Ave North and Gibson Park was given to the city of Great Falls.
1952, Jul - Great Falls Air Force Base completed a $2 million runway.
1954, Jan - The Strategic Air Command (SAC) replaces the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) as the command in charge of the base.
1954, Mar - the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, with its fleet of KB-29 aircraft, began operations at the base.
1954, Aug 21 - Colonel Einar Malmstrom is killed in a plane crash near Great Falls.
1956, Jun 15 - Great Falls AFB was officially dedicated as Malmstrom AFB.
