| A solid case of the catalog not representing the Tonka consumers could purchase. Model #3903 was a one year only issue in 1983. The photo to the right is the real deal. Compare it to the photo out of the catalog. Apparently, the 1983 Tonka dealer catalog went to press before the graphics for the truck were finalized. In fact, the graphics on the back of the carton show the same truck as the catalog. The real deal #3903 has never been removed from the carton, still having the original cable tie securing the truck in place. Within two months of seeing a real Model #3903 for the first time, another variation enters the mix. The construction pickup featured to the left appears to never have been removed from the box as the cable tie is still in place. Note the wheels are black instead of yellow as featured on the truck above. The question needs to be asked, which one of the two Mighty Construction Pickups featured is the standard issue and which one is the variation? Are the yellow wheels standard and the black wheels the variation? If anyone has documention, your help will be appreciated. |
