Boy has this been some month. My hubby and I decided to go the the genealogical library yesterday as a way to keep my mind off of the letter that I sent to my father. When we got home, my hubby checked the mail and there it was. There was a letter from my father. I couldn't believe it. He is actually alive AND he wanted to have contact with me. I think I really convinced myself that he would just through the letter away and that would be my answer.

The letter was dated 4-21-00 and the first line in the letter stated that he wrote the letter the same day that he recieved mine. WOW!!! He even sent pictures of himself and a lady with whom he dances. He likes to dance in dance competitions. Well that is one thing I never got from him. I am going to quote part of the letter here:

"You were very strong when you were little. I was not allowed to try and contact you by court order and you were about 5 years old when I last say you."

One of the last things that he says in the letter that I am going to quote is:
"It was a wonderful experience to hear from one of my kids. The Lord God Almighty truely answered one of my prayers."

I must have been reading this letter a lot yesterday because last night during a commercial of the NHL Playoff game, I picked up the letter again. My hubby, with a big smile on his face, said, "You know, it says the same thing it did the last time you read the letter." Had to giggle over that one but I couldn't take my eyes off of the pictures that he sent. My hubby thinks I have his coloring but I am just glad that he didn't forget. He never remarried and said "to the best of my knowledge never had any more children with any of the women I lived with." He did give me some medical information which I will pass on to my doctor and insisted that I give his address and telephone number to my brother and sister. I never would have kept it from my sister unless he had stated not to send it. I wrote him another letter yesterday and had to tell him the my brother had died 8 years ago. That was very hard to write but he did have a right to know.

I feel very blest that I have found him and that he thought of us off and on. I hope that someday all adoptees and birthparents will be able to meet without all of the nonsensical laws that are now in place to try and stop us in every way possible.
