I am a female adoptee who is searching for my birthmother and older male sibling who was born between the years of 1948 and 1954 to the same birthmother and birthfather.
I was born October 11, 1955 at 2:53am -weight-6lbs,7oz., length-19" in the McKeesport Hospital, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It was a private adoption through ATTORNEY of record-Edward P. Zemprelli
My birthmother relinquished me to the attorney's secretary on a Sunday afternoon after 1pm on October 16 in Edward P. Zemprelli's office, located in Clairton, Pennsylvania. (The day of the week was important as info given to me because they had to open the Attorney's office on a Sunday, which normally wasn't done). My birthmother was said to have been accompanied by her aunt. I was given a couple of special items by my birthmother. It is said that they are theonly things that she could give me.
The state Health Division has on hold more than 2,000 requests from adoptees seeking their original birth records, which often contain the names of biological parents.
Adoptees must be 21 to file a request.
Six anonymous birth mothers challenged the law, arguing it violates their rights to privacy. But they've lost three rounds since a trial judge and the appeals court rejected their arguments and the state's top court declined to review the lower court judgments.
The stay blocking release of the records would be lifted in 21 days if challengers do not ask the court to reconsider, Nass said.
