I am a female adoptee in search of any birthfamily. I was born in Philadelphia PA on May 16, 1970. My birthparents were not married and it was a mutual decision to put me up for adoption through Catholic Social Services in Philadelphia.
Catholic Social Services, back in 1970, did not require or request information from birthfathers. They did not require or request family medical background on either parent. My birthmom was an only child and I grew up in my adopted family as an only child. My adoptive dad died when I was almost 5, so I was raised by my adoptive mom and her mother.
I have many health problems which I have found, for the most part, are hereditary. If I had known of them, they may have been prevented or at least delayed until I was much older. My doctors are still juggling my medications to find out which combination of what will benefit me the most without making me sicker.
I would love to find any birth family out there who would like to find me. I also want to find out my medical history. I am waiting until the doctors tell me it's okay for my husband and I to start our own family. But, then again, with my medical problems, I don't know if I'll even be able to have a child. I may have to adopt, which I want to do anyway, but is it fair with my own medical problems to raise another with an unknown medical history?
