My name is Gilda and I am a birthmother. I relinguished my child back in May of 1970.
After doing that my heart nor my life ever felt complete again. In 1995, I began to search for her. I felt she would be out of school now and might even be a mother herself and maybe more understanding of what led me to relinquish her in 1970. Unbeknownst to me she was having feelings about me as well. She signed up on the Find Me Registry around the same time that I actively started searching for her. She had her first child, a baby girl, that stirred her emotions about me.
I searched long and hard and finally June 1, 1999, I got the call I had waited so long to get. The following Sunday, we met for the first time and I was able to put my arms around my daughter that I had given up 29 years ago. The feeling is unexplainable and to see the the fine young woman she had grown to be was just awesome. I not only found her but a precious little granddaughter too. I no longer have that void in my heart and my life is complete now. Our Reunion has made such a difference in both our lives. My goal in life now is help do any and everthing I possibly can to help others find their loved ones, to participate in helping to get all states to OPEN ADOPTION RECORDS. There is so much to be gained by doing this.
