I am a reunited birth mom, having seached for and found my daughter in 1987. Since that time, I have tried to help others searching whenever and however I can. I have been working via the Internet for a couple years and have networked with a great number of people all over the country. Through that network, I have been able to help many people, but about a year ago I became more and more concerned about what I could do to fascilitate reform of the adoption laws in Maryland. I have to admit that my interest peaked when I became "acquainted" with Ann Wilmer via the Maryland list-serve. It has been through Ann that I have met others active with reform in Maryland and she has truly inspired me to do more.
Last January when the Green Ribbon Campaign got underway, I was honored that Ann asked me to help her, but relieved that I wouldn't be the one responsible for organizing the Maryland campaign. Now that Ann has put the pieces into place, it will be easier to pick up where she left off .. .or so I am hoping.
I am putting together some goals for the Maryland campaign including: 1) formulating and expanding a list of Maryland triad members who will be called upon when the letter writing and other contacts to the Maryland legislature begin; 2) making personal contact with state legislators known to be "friendly" towards adoption reform in Maryland; 3) carefully make contact with those legislators who are "not so friendly" towards reform; 4) start a monthly meeting for triad members to discuss reform, search/reunion issues, and to just "be around" others who have had experiences similar to their own (not a formal support group).
On a personal note, I live in Annapolis, MD. I am married and have two teenage sons at home. My daughter lives in Denver, CO with her three children, which means .. I'm a grandmother!!
