I am proud and honored to lend my support and efforts to our issues, in KY and nationwide. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gale Sipple, I am an adoptee, born in Illinois, adopted in Ohio, and now reside in Kentucky. I did not learn that I was adopted until I was almost 20 years old, so I am also a "late discovery adoptee". I began my search for answers concerning my adoption and my beginnings after the death of my adoptive mother in 1997. It was then that I discovered the complexity of adoption laws and closed records. I was born in Illinois, where records are closed. I was adopted in Ohio, three years later, and because it was before 1964, I was allowed access to my adoption file. It was then that I found the deceit and lies that surrounded adoption. I spent two years looking for a ficticious person, due to a false name for my birthmother on my original birth certificate. Thanks to a wonderful list owner from Texas, who figured out the switch of names for myself and my birthmother on my original birth certificate, I finally located my birthmother and family....a little too late, unfortunately she passed away in April of 1999, and I didn't get a good location for her until July. I did reunite with my youngest birthsister, Carol, and brother, Marc, and we have become good friends and made a connection that will last us a lifetime. We are still searching for our oldest birthsister, Denise, together.
One the personal side, I am now the mother of three adult children, and grandmother of two. I am now the operations mgr. for a concrete construction company in Northern Kentucky, (closer to home). I have also reunited now with birthsister Denise and brother Dan, 11/2001.
It is nice to be here, and to lend my efforts to open records. Having been affected by both closed and open records, and after using the records that I was fortunate enough to have access to in locating my birthfamily, I take personal offense at the perception that as adults we are still referred to as "children" and we are not considered responsible enough to make responsible decisions concerning contact with our birthfamilies. I believe that we should be entitiled to the same laws guaranteed every citizen in the US who remained with biological family, to full access to any and all documents, court files and information about ourselves, and will settle for nothing less than unconditional access.
