My name is Bobbi Long. I am an adoptee. I have lived in Georgia all my life. I am married, have a son, two step-children and four step-grandchildren. I was born 6/16/61 and I recently found out, for sure, that I was born in Fort Oglethorpe,Georgia. My biological parents and a older brother are deceased. There were ten children, three of us were adopted and the others either grew up in foster homes or boys homes. I have met four brothers and two sisters. I am still searching for two brothers.
I was adopted by a family member (a cousin of my biological father) and had a wonderful life growing up. I lost my adoptive father in 1992. I absolutely adore my adoptive mother. I always knew I was adopted. They both were supportive when I wanted to find out about my true heritage.
My biological sister and I have had medical problems in the past, that we are sure we inherited from our mother. That is when I went for my medical history and ultimately for my original birth certificate which I abruptly found out I could not have. As naive as I was, I knew records were sealed to an adopted child but never dreamed I couldn't have my information when I became an adult. Thats when I found places on the internet like The Green Ribbon Campaign and found out that there are thousands of adoptees out there with little or no clue to their identities.
I intend to do what ever I can to remedy this situation. I am active in writing and lobbying states for adoptees to have access to what belongs to them. I am proud to be a part of this group and I believe that together we can make a difference.
