If you are intereseted in assisting the Green Ribbon Campaign for Open Records, please read the descriptions of the areas where we could use some assistance. If you see an area where you feel you can definitely help, then we would definitely appreciate it if you would fill out the form below. Thank you.
There are several areas in which we need assistance:
(1) search consultants -- basic requirements would include familiarity with search techniques, membership on a list-serve that serves the state in which they are offering help, residence in said state recommended, and a recommendation/refrence from an estalished searcher we know. If one is particularly good and has a rapport with the state coordinator then they might become the designated search angel for a state campaign but until we have a small army of these kinds of helpers we have to be very careful how much help we offer, referall to good search helpers is about all we can do. And it's probably all we should do.
(2) researchers -- people who could spend a few hours on the web to collect, assemble and pass on to the appropriate folks such things as:
-- adoption laws within their state or the text of a pending bill
-- media contacts within their state
-- keep clipping files (from the web or from hard copynewspapers) for the media relations effort
-- legislative contacts within their state, members of committees, etc.
-- voting records of particular legislators
-- web-based search search resources they have checked out and evaluated for usefulness
-- other triad organizations within their area(3) activist letter writers -- persons who are willing to remain "on call" to write letters, faxes and e-mails to members of the legislature when there is an important bill pending -- some of these might even become versed at developing and circulating talking points for other letter writers.
(4) demonstrator-- we need to know who is available and able to travel to state capitals on behalf of open records to
-- demonstrate
-- testify before committees
-- speak to the media if we have need for it in a particular location(5) promotional person -- persons who would visit bulletin boards and send a short note inviting people to visit the GRC website and/or subscribe to UPDATE -- anything we can do to boost the circulation of UPDATE can be very valuable to us with regard to bringing us a pool of people to do these other things we've just mentioned.
(6) volunteer other special or professional skills
If you are interested in assisting us in any of these areas, please fill out the form and you will be contacted by a committee member.
