Howdy!
First, a note on "armour" vs "armor". "Armor" typically refers to modern
warfare such as tanks, ballistic nylon/kevlar, cerametized steel, etc...
When researching medieval finds, "armour" is usually used.
I've been doing metalworking, of one kind or another, on and
off now for almost 15 years. I started while in the 8th grade
with knife kits making several daggers and hunting knives...
several of which were illegally confiscated by the Harris County
Sheriff's dept, but that's another story.... While attending Texas A&M University,
I took several materials science courses and got interested in
all aspects of metalworking. I worked four summers for a NASA
contractor as an assistant machinist building shuttle transportation
systems hardware. I learned quite a bit about sheetmetal working,
became certified on mills, lathes and hydraulic brakes,
performing class II machinist work.. I also
learned to MIG, TIG and stick weld all different types of metals.
It was during this time I found the SCA, or rather it found
me...and I've been hooked ever since. I was disgusted at the
quality to price ratio of most of what I saw in armour and
weapons at various fairs, so I started making my own. Most of this was "on the
job training". I've spent the last several years really researching
the materials and methods and refining my techniques in order
to produce better products. I've also began expanding on my
armouring capabilities. I'm still on the learning curve,
striving to improve on each piece I do. I regularly host others who are
interested in learning the craft as well. Stroll through the pages and let me know what you think.
The buttons will take you to the various
pages I have up.
