Howdy!
Glad you stopped in!
I'm STILL slowly working through my site gleaning out the crap and broken links/pics.
I hate computer work...I'd much rather be hammering.
There are still several broken links, most of which still due
to pages I just haven't created yet! Lots of pics are still missing as well. These should slowly get taken
care of as I make my way through the site cleaning house. Ahh well....
The buttons will take you to the various pages I have up. As usual...I'll be continually
updating the site. Check the "What's new"
box here for updates on new cool stuff!.
Right now I'm having too much fun making knives to do much armouring. I still do one Viking/Saxon helm every other month or so, though.
The next big armour project will be updating all my personal gear with high carbon steel 15th century armour.
Thanks
Don "Krag" Halter
What's New!
I'll be heading out to the Democratic Republic of the Congo the first week in June through the end of June.
I then come back for a week and head out to Pittsburgh, then back for a week or two, then back to the Congo, but further interior.
The good news is that I get to make a set of knives and get some first-hand experience with some heavy duty field-testing, The bad news is
that I won't be able to make any knives for a couple months! Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in the Central
Texas KNife show July 18th! I got the Modern and Military/Police knife page up now so you can view the projects
there as I finish them up.
I'm now a board of directors member for the texas Knifemaker and Collector Association.
I'm looking forward to some of the upcoming projects with them! One project is the charity knife project I started a while back.
Looks like I'll finally get the project going strong with a completion date of early Fall or so.
I have an assortment of battlefield scrap from both Iraq and Afghanistan that will be doled out to various knifemakers. This material will be
used to make knives, which will then be auctioned off with all proceeds going to a TX based charity organization that helps the families of
fallen soldiers. I've been working on this for a couple years now and am really excited to see it coming through now!
I will begin hosting knifemaker weekends for the Texas regional knifemakersagain this Spring. Of course, I will be traveling with my work alot as well, though. These are
more of a social gathering with a bit of forging, grinding and technical talk thrown in for good
measure. If you're a knifemaker, or interested in knifemaking and would like to come
up for one, send me an email and I'll add you to the information list for schedules of events
and such. Right now, the next one is planned for sometime in August since I'll be back in Africa late July.
For those that know me, they know I've become addicted to blackpowder weapons.
I've been making mostly medieval gonnes in the .50-.75 cal range. Those are a blast to shoot
and I plan on hunting with one this coming season. Don't believe any crap you hear about how innacurate they are.
They're a 9-12" bbl smoothbore, quite capable of 50 yard bullseyes! I made a 1.1" cal
gonne and thought I was cool...until a friend came over with a full-scale Confederate Mountain Rifle.
A couple blasts of the 2.25" cal cannon and I knew what must be done! I now have a 6" cal
Sikh war replica standing mortar almost done and a 1.72" (US standard golfball size) medieval cannon in works. These are loud...very loud!
I will offer the small cal gonnes for sale,
but I do not build cannons for sale to the general public. All cannons stay here!
