Family and history of Galena Berylstar:

Aegiryn and Galena at their wedding
Daughter of Galax and Andaluse Berylstar, she was the youngest of seven children born to her father. Her mother Andaluse was herbalist for the clan, brewing poultices and cures for minor ailments. She also served potions and vials of assorted types to those outside the clan who might request unusual things. Whether a result of one of her potions, or a simple compatability of natures proven by three children together, Andaluse and Galax proclaimed themselves mates shortly before Galena's birth in 574. Galena was Andaluse’s fourth child, though only the last three sired by Galax survived: Acadian, Eryth and Galena.

Galax was a locksmith by trade, and minstrel by entertainment. He had discovered both talents at a fairly early age as many do, and employed them skillfully. Over the course of years, he was known to many women and sired six sons, each of whom grew strong in support of the clan: Acadian, Borax, Corund, Dolomar, Eryth, and Fluorian. While the mothers of Galax’s other four sons were friendly, they went their own ways after the births of the boys and allowed them to remain with their father. Galax and his sons remained close and worked as a unit. When he claimed Andaluse as mate and Galena resulted, the sons of Galax chose to lay protective claim to their new sister in a most un-Gypsylike manner.

As the youngest child and the only daughter, Galena was spoiled and quickly learned how to get her own way most of the time. Her brothers doted on her, and with their protectiveness, it was truly amazing that the poor girl was even able to be courted and eventually marry. Nevertheless, she spent a very carefree youth with her grandfather, Abraxis, learning to tell stories to regale an audience. Unlike most of the young Berylstars, Galena was never sent to spend the customary time with the Fallowfield clan, instead learning her trades from the clan’s healers. When she began to learn the art of massage, she opened her own small shop for the benefit of not only her clan, but the gaje of whatever town the clan happened to be in at the time.

One day, a handsome Gypsy man appeared in her shop, a Fallowfield by his clan colors. She found his conversation and humor charming, and admired his fine face. When he began appearing in her shop on a regular basis, she knew he wasn’t there for her massages alone! Prudently, she did not mention any of this to her brothers, lest they take steps to make sure the young man directed his attentions elsewhere. Galena might have known better, for Dolomar took her aside one day for a rather frank discussion about the young man and his intentions. It seemed that he was apprenticed to their eldest brother, Acadian, and had already spoken to Acadian about her. In short, the brothers had decided to permit the match because they knew the young man well and grudgingly admitted he was of good enough quality for their baby sister. And so, in the summer of 596, Aegiryn Fallowfield married Galena Berylstar and left his clan to join the Berylstar clan.
