Kameo: Elements of Power

Like Nintendo had it’s secret game, Pikmin, so did Rare. Kameo: Elements of Power. Kameo is a Role Playing Adventure that is very different from anything they have ever done before. IGN claims “it could almost be renamed to Kameo: Elements of Pokémon”. A pokemon-like RPG, sounds good to me. You are a gifted young girl named Kameo, and during your quests it is your job to rescue six elemental children. “With her spock-inspired ears and her hoopty-earrings, Kameo looks like a disco-induced Jet Force Gemini character.” (IGN) Your goal is not just to save the world from evil bosses, you must capture, raise, and nurture your creatures. Once the creature as “matured”, Kameo can either unleash the creature to fight for her, or she can morph into the creature. The creature takes a transparent look so that you can still see Kameo inside of the creature.  IGN also says that this title has a refreshing humor to it.  “The method Kameo uses to capture the wildlife is done through a round colorful instrument that looks a lot like a Simon Says toy. Players point the tool in the general direction of the unaware creatures, a light then beams forward, and with good aim Kameo is in a battle to catch the creature in a bubble. From there players have to finalize the deal through a somewhat psychedelic-colored vortex that blankets the world in front of Kameo. You use the analog stick to center the bubble in the middle of the vortex. There's some resistance, and it's similar to "reeling" in a fish, but if done right you'll capture the creature for good.” (IGN) The control in Kameo takes the simplicity approach of the GAMECUBE controller. “Although only utilizing the standard analog stick and four buttons, Kameo jumps, runs, flies, glides, swims, and few other things yet to be seen with relative ease.” (IGN) The control stick is used for movement and the c-stick is used for changing the camera. “From what three levels were playable at E3, the environments were quite vivid with an impressive draw distance, and unlike that last crop of Nintendo games featured no fog and steady framerates.” (IGN) It looks like a promising game that should hopefully score Rare another “player’s choice”.
