| A brief description of each track is provided below by Eagle E himself. WHO WE My upbringing was fragmented and influenced by many things and places. London, NY, Jamaica to name but a few. Finding out who I was and what made me came from the people around me more so than the places. I still to this day consider myself a nomad and a drifter. Growing up in Long Island was great and moving to Brooklyn after my dads second divorce was messed up at first,. However moving to Brooklyn became a defining moment in my Life. Who we is a war cry because I am telling you who we are and what we stand for in this song. It's like the Haka that the Maori's use before a battle. Listen carefully to this song before you step to the plate. PLAY PUMP DAT WALK I always found it hard to get over how European women use their walk. In Brooklyn and NY people walked with a purpose and women used every bone and muscle in their body when they moved. It did not seem to matter how big or small they where they would just pump that walk and shake that ass. I like that . It shows confidence. If you ever see those cat walk models moving on the cat walk man you know what I mean. They walk with a purpose. Every stride is saying 'Come get some !'. Any man who like a woman with a flat behind aint right in my book, but different strokes for different folks. Me personally I like a nice rear and I like to see it swing. If you feel like I do, you will understand this song. If you don't I suggest you skip this one and or just listen to the music. PLAY SPANK ME There are many things about this groove which I love, but most of all it's the fact that you just cant sit down and do nothing to it. Something has got to be banging. Spank me is my cry against political correctness. I love women to be strong and take control, be it in the bedroom or in the boardroom, makes no never mind to me, but it makes me laugh when you turn it on them, because most of them just can't handle the heat. Some can but most can't. PLAY STILL MY BABY If you take the time to listen to my work and lyrics then you will know that I try more often than not to give both sides of the story. I guess I am not blessed with blind ignorance and when I am writing I try always to present some counter argument to what I am saying. I am not a brother who would chase down any woman if she don't wanna hang. Really aint got much time for that. But I can understand and I do empathise with guys who have spent time, money, love and effort on a woman only to see some other brother come and get the fruits of his labour. Now I can hear all you liberal, feminist, man bashing honnies out there cursing me for this one but I could give a shit. Anything you put time, effort and love into is worth defending and fighting for. However keeping up to my word of trying to see both sides of the argument - is it worth keeping something that does not want to be kept? You tell me. Still my baby is my look at this funky issue. PLAY
TAKE IT BACK I have never hit a woman. Even when every bone in my body wants me to knock a bitch out I have never been able to do it. Call it upbringing. My Father would not tolerate hitting a woman, and my mum almost killed me for fighting with my sister when we were kids. The way I grew up it was just a no no. However I have known many men that have and do, some I even call friend and I have been close to it and understand how in a fit of anger you can lash out and hit a woman. If such a thing were ever to happen to me I would be devastated and I would want to take it back and say sorry a thousand times. Take it back is about this. PLAY
LETS MAKE LOVE TONIGHT Sometimes you just let the groove do the talking. Some grooves say more than a thousand words. When Doc put this groove in front of me the words just spilled out of my mouth. This is not rocket science here. I wanted to capture a feeling. I wanted to blend with the groove and just ride it like a good woman. This is one of my favourites. My old man would have loved this. God rest him PLAY WHAT'S GOING ON DADDY? Some songs are just written out of frustration. Some songs are like a woman bitching. Sometimes I look around this world and my own personal life and wonder what the hell is going on? I can't explain it to myself, let alone my little girl. I guess what it all boils down to in the end is survival. That's all I wanna do, and sometimes that's all I feel I can do. Sometimes success, dreams, and aspirations just don't come into the picture - it's just me against the world in a battle I am destined to loose. PLAY SWEET 16 There is something about the number 16 that conjures up images of beauty and innocence. From Chuck Berry to Elvis 16 has been used when describing young love. Nowadays though that's all out the window. 16 can get you locked up with a quickness. I have dated many a young girl. None that I knew of where that young, except when I was that young. These days it can sometimes be hard to tell. When I wrote this song I knew I wanted to do something that had that old skool doo wop kinda flavour to it and I knew I wanted to call it sweet 16 before I even wrote a single line. Once I started it all just kinda fell into place. PLAY
BANG BANG I guess nothing ever really changes and the thought of the black man pulling himself up as a nation and getting it together seems to be more of a dream than anything else. What happened to the days when we had it going on. When from the Nile to the Euphrates we rocked this planet? The struggle - what struggle, David whooped Goliath and I feel we would need the same divine intervention to achieve any victory in this battle. And then should we win, who's to say we would be any different. As the tide turns just trying to make it through the day in a white mans world aint no joke sometimes PLAY ROCK YOUR WORLD Not much to say about this one except we like it. PLAY. DOWN WITH THE EAGLE Hip Hop you don't stop. Remember when hip hop did not have to be that serious? I do, that was a great time man. Breaking was king, Hip hop had Cool mo Dee, Bismarke, Big Daddy kane, and the like. Well this tune is like a little bit of that kinda flavour. Linked up with Nocturnal rage on this one to add some spice to the mix, and every time I hear it , I wanna do something. PLAY RIDE I guess it does not take a genius to figure out that I love bikes. Purest form of power and art if you ask me. I wrote ride for the hell of it really. I just thought let me write a song about something I really love doing for once. I know a lot of people won't understand it. If you don't ride a bike or have never ridden one this might just go over your head. The vibe is real though and anyone can get with that. Princess used this track as her comeback joint too. PLAY START SPREADING YOUR LEGS To some people this song is pure genius, to others it's the work of some sick sex mad, childish fools. I guess it's six of one and half dozen of the other. If you can get into my head you will understand and appreciate this song. If you cant see beyond your nose you won't like it. In many a way this is a true love song. Or at least a love song that does not use flowered language. And many a brother will admit that what I speak in this song is the truth. Whether they will admit that to their partner though is another matter. PLAY
COOL HAND LUKE I don't know about you, but I spent my life trying to be like some movie character or another. But while most of my peers wanted to be Shaft I wanted to be Cool Hand Luke. From the moment I saw that movie I thought that is the coolest guy I have ever seen on screen. If you aint seen the movie I am kinda wasting my time, but if you have you will know what I mean. One of my greatest attributes is my ability to remain cool and keep thinking under fire. My dad taught me that. I am not sure I ever saw that man sweat. I cant say I was always like this. I used to blow up like a roman candle for the smallest thing. But I learned to be cool from my dad and Paul Newman. When I wrote this song I wanted to put in some of the advice my dad left with me that helped form my way of thinking to this day. This song means a lot to me I hope you get something from it too. PLAY ITS ABOUT THAT TIME Man you just can't always choose the people you will fall in love with. More often than not when you are diggin them, they aint diggin you. Everything in life is about timing aint it?. Anyhow sometimes you just gotta try your luck and say how you feel and if it's real and you say it right things may go your way. I wrote this song for all the guys out there who need a track to give to a gal. I know sometimes words come hard so I wrote them down for you. I know sometimes saying these things are tough so I said them for you. I know what you want to say because I have been there. And I know what she wants to hear because if she is real she wants to hear the truth. PLAY TTAKE IT HOME Some days you just don't want to get out of bed. Some days things just look grim. Some days no human being can make you feel better. On days like that I pray. When I look at this world and this life I sometimes wish for the promised land, wherever it is, whatever it is. One thing is for sure there is something rejuvenating about spilling your guts to the almighty who ever you serve. Gospel is in my blood and I could not finish this album without some hint of Gospel in it. Take it home is my own personal prayer. I guess you might pray for other things and that ok. However if you want you can join me in mine. The lyrics on this track are deep and the groove is even deeper. Who would have thought that a German could come up with shit like that huh? Doc B one in a million. PLAY BRIGHTER DAYS Disco! Hey man you either loved it or hated it. I loved it and had to through something on the album with that flavour. Things just seemed simpler then. You went to a joint, saw a girl or five and danced all night, and every now and then you would get lucky. Disco can lift you up man. Try it. PLAY DJ CAN YOU PLAY ANOTHER SLOW JAM? I like to get jiggy with it as much as the next guy, but a whole night of jiggy can mess up a brothers flow. DJ's seem to be afraid of playing a few slow grooves in club these days. Me personally I love the slow jam. That's why I wrote slow jam. How else you gonna get close to a girl you have never met before in a club without getting a slap. PLAY |
