WHY:
Based on a true story this new musical "Acoustic Chocolate" is a dramatic comedy written by acclaimed actor, director, playwright Malik Yoba. tells the story of six young musicians struggling to make
the dream of pop superstardom come true. Faced with self doubt, betrayal, shady entertainment practices and other pitfalls on the road to success, this group of supremely talented artists overcome many obstacles to reach their goals of self-determination and platinum record sales. This is a story
of triumph, of failure, of love lost and won, of suicide and depression, of sickness and health.
A Journey of the human spirit succeeding against all odds. The play brings to light, many important mental health issues that are prevalent in many families who are ashamed to talk about it or seek help. "Acoustic Chocolate" allows us to identify with the trials of life and inspires us to seek answers and help for our problems. The play serves as an informer and healer on issues of mental health in our society.
"Accoustic Chocolate" is written by Malik Yoba, Raquis Petrie and Directed by Michael DeLorenzo.
This will be the first production of Malik's company, The Malik Yoba National Theatre Company (MYNT). Acclaimed actor, playwright, and musician Malik Yoba of New York Undercover and Cool Runnings fame, was cited by the New York Times Magazine as, "An artist who will most likely change American culture
in the next thirty years".
