Celtic started off the match in impressive fashion. They completely controlled the game, scarcely surrendering possession to Dunfermline. 2 chances in the first 2 minutes saw the ball put just wide twice. Celtic were causing Dunfermline all sorts of problems and last ditch tackles and clearances were the order of the day. It was 14 minutes into the half before Dunfermline got possession in the Celtic half. The expectant crowd sat back and waited for a barrowload of goals. Despite some nice play from Celtic the first goal came from a Dunfermline mistake. Ruitenbeek's hasty clearance fell to Moravcik in the clear and from 30 yards his first time right foot shot found the net. The expectant crowd sat back and waited for a barrowload of goals. Celtic began to play as if they were already several goals up and Dunfermline began to get more possession. Celtic still threatened the Dunfermline goal and Petrov then Moravcik went close with headers. It looked as though the slender one-nil lead would be all Celtic would have to take into the break. However, some trickery from Larsson got him free in the box. He slid the ball through to Sutton who made no mistake. With Europe on their minds and a very quiet crowd, Celtic continued to go through the motions in the second half. Dunfermline were allowed a good deal of possession and twice Kharine saved from Jack de Gier. The Dunfermline defence was vulnerable to the long through ball and Larsson threatened twice, but it was Moravcik who made the second half breakthrough. He ran on to a long ball from Baldé and with a defender in close attendance looped a volley over the keeper. Stevie Crawford completed the scoring unleashing a left foot drive high into the net from just inside the box. Graeme's GameAfter the excitement(?!!) of the International games, it was back to league duty against the visiting Fifers. Boyd and Mcnamara were rested and Douglas and Lambert were nursing injuries after the debacle in Brussels. This meant Kharine in goal - doesn't look like we're going to see Gould between the sticks again - big Bobo making his debut and Petrov returning after captaining Bulgaria in midweek. When the game started, following a minutes silence for Bobby Evans, Celtic flew out of the blocks and should have scored inside two minutes when further evidence of the almost telepathic understanding between Sutton and Larsson saw the Swede denied by a tremendous save. Celtic continued to press and took the lead in nine minutes when Lubo's quick thinking produced another gem. The Pars goalie sclaffed his goal kick to the wee man 30 yards out, he took one touch to control it then despatched it into the net with the outside of his right foot. Having missed two or three other good chances we then seemed to ease off a bit, allowing Dunfermline into a game that should have been finished as a contest. They enjoyed some good possesion and forced Kharine into a couple of good saves. I felt the defensive trio looked very nervous at times and, without Lambert in front of them, were being put under too much pressure for my liking. Big Bobo is indeed very big, but looks like he'll need time to adjust to the pace of our game. I think he'll cause a few heart flutters in and around our box. Great to see Petrov back and getting into a few good hard tackles. Once his match sharpness is back it'll be like having a new player. Celtic virtually ended the contest when they scored again right on half time. Lovely play again from Henke as he danced along the edge of the box before putting Sutton through with a back heeler. Big Chris gratefully accepted. In the second half we seemed to huff and puff a bit. Hopefully some of the missing players will be back for Wednesday, particularly Lambert and Mjalby, as a better team than Dunfermline would surely have exacted more punishment. Worrying also that Joos hobbled off - which could put him out of the Rosenborg game. Also meant that Hartso came on and Sutton was shunted back into defence. Now I'm not one to criticise the manager, but he's totally wasted back there. The real strength in the team just now is the presence and potency of the front two and putting Chris back unbalances the whole team. I'm still not sure about Hartson - a goal would help. Lubo tied things up with a great volley, left foot this time, after a long ball from Baldé had gone into orbit before landing perfectly at the wee man's feet. Tebily ventured forward and hit the post with a swerving shot, I'm trying hard to convince myself he's maybe not a bad player!! Dunfermline scored near the end and Kharine had to make two more saves after this. Must be tighter in the European games or we're in bother. Never the less it was a good result, particularly after events later at Tynecastle, but too many lapses in concentration which we simply won't get away with in the Champions league. So, at last we're there, Rosenborg come calling on Wednesday and my advice to players and fans alike is just enjoy the whole thing, every minute of it. The Rosenborg assistant coach said he thought Celtic "played well and controlled the game" but added "I think there are areas we can exploit" Let's hope not.
