Graeme's GameHibernian v Celtic Another T.V game and the same anxieties as the bhoys ran out wearing the new white away strip for the first time, Hibs appeared in an outlandish purple outfit in a pre-match marketing challenge of 'who's got the grooviest new kit'. The team line up showed a couple of changes as out of the squad went Joos and Jackie with Thompson, Tebily and Lubo all starting. I wondered how much Wednesdays' game might have taken out of them but they started brightly, as did Hibs who probably had the better of the opening 15 minutes. The home sides game plan fell apart, however, in a stunning five minute period for Celtic. Awarded a free kick midway inside the Hibs half, Lambert rolled the ball to Lubo who skipped past a baffled opponent and lashed a swerving left foot shot screaming into the top corner of the net. It was a piece of skill that we have come to expect from the wee man but even I was shocked at the lightning way his brain clicks into situations that nobody else even thinks about, let alone attempts. Straight from the kick off Agathe won the ball and sent Sutton running alongside Sauzee, big Chris muscled his way past the Frenchman and slammed home number two. Three minutes later and another delightful piece of skill from Lubo sent Sutton through again and, although his first touch took him a bit wide, he finished brilliantly to put us three up. I was still drooling from the first goal and could scarcely believe we were ripping Hibs apart away from home. Seemed the only one who had a European hangover was me! Celtic continued to torment their opponents and scored number four after 31minutes when Henrik rose unchallenged to head low into the net. Four goals already for the king. The second half was always going to be a bit of an anti-climax and the manager brought on Hartson, Guppy and Kharine (where is jhonny gould these days?). Hibs grabbed a late goal, the first we've conceded in the league this season but the game had been over since the twentieth minute. Overall a very satisfying result with excellent performances from Sutton, Lambert and, dare I say it, Tebily!! Man of the match, sorry Chris, but for that one moment of sublime genius it has to be Lubo. |
