IN MEMORY OF JESSE W.
LEE
Who Died Near
Cochran On The 8th Day Of September Last-Was Fitting Himself
For The Ministry.
On September
14, 1866, Rev. Jesse W. Lee was born unto Mr. and Mrs. Hixon C. Lee.
In July of 1882 he was born unto God by the Holy Ghost, and
united himself with the First Baptist Church of Cochran, Ga.
In the spring of 1889 he felt called of God to preach the blessed
gospel, and on September 8th, 1896, he departed from earth to
heaven.
Rev. Lee did much work in the cause of Christ in a quiet way, but
never entered into the full work of the gospel ministry.
In the fall of
1895 the Eastman Baptist Church licensed him to exercise his gifts in
preaching, and sent him to the Southern Baptist Seminary to fit himself
for his work.
Bro. Lee realized his need of better literary education and had
determined on its pursuit, bur before he returned to the seminary death
intercepted his course and stopped him.
A good future spread out before him.
He was not a brilliant thinker nor fluent speaker, but he had a
feeling heart that yearned for truth and righteousness, and a true,
manly Christian character that gave him a strong influence with those
who knew him best. He was a
Christian everywhere and in all things.
His consecrated, manly life would have enabled him to accomplish
good in the world. His life
was Christian, and so was his death. He died clinging to the beams and pillars of Heaven.
Bro. Lee left and aged mother, three sisters, and two brothers,
unto whom we extend our warmest sympathies, and unto whom we commend the
word of God and the Holy Spirit as the source of comfort and guide to
heaven.
