HIXON LEE (1822-1890) Hixon Lee was born in 1822 in South Carolina and
moved to Georgia when he was 12 years old.
He married Martha Lassie McCrea.
Hixon died in 1890, and Martha died in 1899.
Both are buried at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cochran, Ga. To
the union of Hixon and Martha were born 12 children (mentioned in
Hixon’s obit.) The children I have for Hixon and Martha were Caroline
Minnie, Eli, Frances, Stephen, John Franklin, Joseph, Martha Elizabeth
“Lizzie”, and Jesse W. Hixon's
obit did indicate that only six children were alive at the time of his
death. My
brickwall with Hixon is that his father is unknown.
His mother was Nancy Woodard.
Nancy's father was Thomas Woodard 3rd
who was born in North Carolina and died in Sumter County, SC before
1846. A
Woodard family tree lists a Nancy Woodard married to an N. Lee with these
children: Alexander,
born Abt. 1822, Hixon, born Abt. 1825, Jesse, born Abt. 1827 and Thomas,
born Abt. 1829. Nancy
Lee is listed in the 1840 Houston County, Ga. census.
No husband is listed indicating that her husband died before 1840,
most likely between 1834 and 1840. |
