Dear Jack Kilduf,
Recently, I heard of your new contest promoting the
rodeo. I am appalled that your company would
associate with such a horrific form of entertainment.
This email is to inform you that I will cease to
purchase your products until you cancel the rodeo
contest.
Rodeos are inherently cruel. Calves, running at speeds
of up to 27 miles per hour, are jerked off their feet
by a rope slung around their necks and slammed to the
ground. They often suffer paralysis, throat and neck
injuries, and broken bones. Many die. Calves have
become paralyzed from severe spinal cord injury, or
their tracheas may be totally or partially severed.
PETA has video footage of calves having their tails
twisted and yanked prior to their release from the
chute. As the gate is opened, the calves swiftly flee
the source of pain. Cowboys purposely engage in this
type of painful physical provocation in order to make
these normally docile animals appear “wild.”
This is absolutely unacceptable. Even if the animals
were treated "humanely", the idea of animals forced to
perform is enough for any compassionate company to
oppose the practice.
