Letter of the Week

This letter was sent to three PEI newspapers in response to a series of stories published about the devastated Inman family who lost their family dog to a snare trap. The paper raised concerns that the non-target animals caught in these traps suffer excruciating pain and slow, horrible deaths, while giving no attention to the pain and suffering of the target animals.

To The Editor:

First, I would like to extend my sympathies to the Inman family who lost their beloved friend to a snare trap. Second, I would like to express my sympathy to the other 2 million fur bearing animals who lose their life to the fur industry every year in Canada. Perhaps we all need to take a look at our relationship with ALL fur bearing animals and question the use of traps (and fur farms) altogether. ALL animals caught in snares and leg-hold traps suffer tremendous agony not just the "non-target" animals. Why is the pain and suffering of a fox, beaver, or mink any less horrible than that of a cat or a dog? Traps are dangerous, cruel, and most importantly indiscriminate. If you are compassionate - stop buying fur and fur trimmed products. That is the only way the cruelty will ever stop.

Sincerely,
